The Dunlop Winter Sport 5 is a winter tyre designed to provide motorists with a reliable performance and enhance grip when tackling the unique difficulties faced on the road in freezing winter conditions.

To enhance the performance of the tyre on snow-covered roads Dunlop have designed the Winter Sport 5 an increased number of tread blocks to increase the number of edges that are come into contact with the road - providing superior traction.

In order to reduce the risk of the tyre aquaplaning, when the snow and ice begins to melt, Dunlop have constructed the tyre with deeper grooves and a special tread pattern that works to quickly remove large amounts of surface water from the path of the tyre.

They’re good in icy, snowy and wet conditions. Particularly in snow. Fine on the dry also. When the weather gets much over 7 degrees Celsius they have much less grip. We’ve had a very mild winter so I haven’t had the chance to get too much snow use out of them. But they’ve performed admirably on the occasions that I have been.

These are winter tyres - bought for use in snow/ice/cold. In these conditions they work really well, very impressive, give loads of confidence. Don't use them in hot weather though - performance is not good, wear is really poor, but they aren't designed for hot weather use, so not unexpected!

Although the tyres give a slight 'floating' feeling the tyres worked extremely well in the recent snow sailing past other cars safely. More generally in normal weather I didn't notice any reduction in handling braking performance or economy ... they might have been better when very cold. The only real issue is *not* connected with the tyres ... putting the old summer tyres on new [non-standard] rims has been stressful and time-consuming. It's not as straight forward as the advertisements imply. Had I known this I wouldn't have bought winter tyres.
