Convert HP to kW

What is Horsepower?

Horsepower (HP) is a unit of measurement for power, the rate at which work is done. Originally devised by engineer James Watt to compare the power of steam engines with the work of draft horses, it has since become a standard unit for measuring the power output of engines, motors, and other machinery. One horsepower is defined as the ability to move 550 pounds one foot in one second, or 33,000 foot-pounds per minute.

Result in Kilowatts (kW) will be shown here.

How to convert Horsepower to Kilowatts (kW)?

To convert horsepower to kilowatts, multiply the horsepower value by 0.7457. This conversion factor arises from the definition of a horsepower: 1 HP equals 745.7 watts, and since 1 kilowatt equals 1,000 watts, the conversion factor from HP to kW is 0.7457.

How many Kilowatts in 1 Horsepower?

There are approximately 0.7457 kilowatts in 1 horsepower.

Horsepower to Kilowatts Formula

The formula to convert horsepower to kilowatts is: Kilowatts = Horsepower x 0.7457

For example, if an engine produces 100 HP, the equivalent power in kilowatts would be: Kilowatts = 100 x 0.7457 = 74.57 kW
