Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Wins Evo Tyre Test

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is the latest tyre to receive the Evo Tyre Award for overall winner, as described in issue 238 of Evo Magazine.

The magazine pitted 9 of the most popular brands of tyres against each other. The size chosen was 225/40 R18, the most popular UHP - Ultra High Performance - size on the market. With the same track and car used for all the tyres, the stage was set.

Evo's 2017 Tyre Test

In Evo's 2017 Tyre Test, they found the Pilot Sport 4 to be a clear overall winner compared to competitors. Testers commented on the tyre saying, "Its feel was peerless in the wet... and its dry performance too. On the road it was effortlessly agile and refined. Simply a great tyre."

When being tested on wet surfaces, the Pilot Sport 4 was found to have the best stopping distance at 52mph. It was also found the second best at 62mph.

Similarly, in dry surfaces it excelled and only came second to the Pirelli P Zero PZ4.

The Pilot Sport 4 managed a speed of 50mph before straight line aquaplaning and the car lost control. The Pilot Sport 4 finished first in this test as well, closely followed by the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3.

Lastly, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 also won on the subjective opinions of the reviewers. In terms of wet handling, dry handling and general feelings of comfort and grip - Michelin was the clear winner.
