Today sees the launch of the new Michelin Primacy 5 tyre. A tyre that joins the renowned Primary range.
Michelin have carefully designed the new Primacy 5 with safety, performance and longevity at the heart of the tyre.
The latest tyre from Michelin is aimed squarely at taking on the other premium tyres on the market, like the Pirelli Cinturato P7 and the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2.
We’ll be taking a closer look at its features, performance, price point, comfort, and of course, how the right tyre choice can make all the difference.
Features & Style
First off, the Primacy 5 boasts a sleek and modern design. Michelin’s engineers have obviously spent some time focused on enhancing the tyre's aesthetics without compromising on the functionality.
With a newly designed tread pattern that tackles the rolling noise, allowing the tyre to whisper, not roar. Adding to the overall comfort of the tyre.
ICE, Hybrid & EV
The Primacy 5 is designed to complement a range of engine types. Whether it is the traditional internal combustion engines, a go-between hybrid, or modern day EV.
Comfort & Safety
The Primacy 5 aims to create a more pleasant 'interior' experience for the driver. The focus on reducing noise, vibration, and harshness is designed to make every journey more comfortable and enjoyable.
Compared to the Primacy 4+, the new Primacy 5 boasts a 4% improvement in wet braking distance when new – as seen during the TÜV SÜD Product Service testing in July 2024, on dimension 205/55 R16 91V.
This means greater safety and control in challenging weather conditions.
Michelin has also focused on longevity, claiming an 18% improvement in mileage over its predecessor – according to tests carried out at the DEKRA TEST CENTER in July 2024, on dimension 235/45 R18 98 W. Making the Primacy 5 a sound long-term investment.
The Primacy 5’s tread pattern, featuring a 10% increase in void ratio compared to the Primacy 4+. Which will play a crucial role in enhancing the driving experience.
This design, combined with Michelin's EverGrip and EverTread technologies ensures exceptional wet weather performance.
Wider grooves allow for increased water evacuation, reducing the risk of aquaplaning and providing superior grip and control.
This is especially important for drivers who prioritise safety and confidence on the road, especially in unpredictable British weather.
Coming Soon Shop MichelinDuring the January 2025 launch, Michelin has the tyre available in 20 key core sizes:
Notably, the tyres will come in 16 inch, 17 inch, 18 inch and 19 inch rim sizes.
Further sizes will be released throughout the year – with more sizes coming in the Spring and Summer months.
The Primacy 5 prices are yet to be confirmed and will vary based on size and variants.
However, pricing will be sure to position the new Primacy 5 competitively within the premium tyre segment.
The Michelin Primacy 5 aims to deliver a balance of safety, longevity, and comfort. But what matters most is how it performs for you.
From city to medium and executive cars and SUVs, the new Primacy 5 looks set to become a firm favourite.
As they aim to be the right tyre for every motorist seeking safety that’s made to last.
