If you're a fan of
high-performance tyres, it is likely that you're already familiar with Michelin's Pilot Sport range.
For years, this set of tyres has been a go-to for drivers. Especially those looking for excellent grip and handling in both wet and dry conditions.
Now, Michelin has released the latest iteration - the
Michelin Pilot Sport S 5
The Pilot Sport S 5 is designed for sports cars and super saloons, and is initially available in just 3 key 21 inch sizes:
However, more sizes are to be added in the coming months.
Michelin has worked closely with vehicle manufacturers
Ferrari,
Porsche, and
Lucid to help develop a tyre that meets the unique demands of a modern performance vehicle.
What is it that is to set the Pilot Sport S 5 apart from its predecessor, the
Michelin Pilot Sport 5?
For starters, it features a revised tread design. Optimised for use in the summer months.
The internal construction of the Pilot Sport S 5 also includes a blend of aramid and nylon. This improves the responsiveness and feedback from the road to the driver.
One of the most significant differences between the Pilot Sport S 5 and the more track-focused
Pilot Sport Cup 2 is that the S 5 has been developed to deliver a more reliable performace in wet conditions.
The tyre is rated B for wet weather grip across all sizes. The larger longitudinal grooves at the outer edges of the tread to help channel water away from the contact patch. Reducing the risk of aquaplaning.
Although it's not as aggressive as the Cup 2, the Pilot Sport S 5 is still a performance tyre through and through.
It also has larger tread blocks, which means it has a larger contact patch for improved grip. Designed to be less flexible, which further enhances its handling capabilities.
If you're looking for high-performance
car tyres that can deliver excellent grip, handling, and responsiveness, the Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 is definitely worth considering.
