You could never accuse Ford of not trying to mix it up with the Mustang Mach-E. After all, here’s a car that comes with one of the most famous sports car names in the world, yet it’s also an electric car, and at its core it’s also a family SUV.
The question isn’t whether the Mustang Mach-E works in all three of those areas, but how it blends them together? As far as the Mustang name goes, you can see a few styling cues the Mach-E has in common with its petrol-powered coupe counterpart. Look at the front and rear lights, as well as the double hump dash top, and there are nods to Ford’s performance car for the people.

On the road, the Mach-E certainly has the pace to warrant those Mustang associations. Depending on which model you choose, the Mach-E can reach 62mph from a standstill in as little as 3.7 seconds, which firmly puts the GT model into performance SUV territory alongside a Tesla Model Y or Audi Q4 e-tron.
Even the more affordable Ford models are quick off the mark, and you have a choice of rear-wheel drive or four-by-four versions of the Mach-E.
Keeping this power and performance in check are Continental PremiumContact 6 tyres fitted as standard. With their innovative design aimed at delivering comfort that goes hand in hand with great driving, they are ideal for the Mach-E’s broad range of talents. This also includes reducing wear and improving battery driving range by up to 15%.
Ford revised the suspension set-up for the Mustang Mach-E in 2022 and it means the car is now even more supple and cushy over bumpy roads than before. This is an important consideration for any family SUV as the last thing you want is the kids, dog, shopping, and you being jiggled around by bumps and ripples in the road. Add in the Mach-E’s strong grip in corners and it lives up to its illustrious name.
It also fits in with family life thanks to the raised driving position of an SUV and a roomy interior, which has all of the ease of use and uncomplicated style we expect of Ford. The large main screen runs most of the car’s functions, and there’s even a menu that lets the kids draw and save pictures. Beat that for entertainment when you’re stuck in a traffic jam!
In the back, children and adults will find plenty of space to spread out on longer journeys, and the boot comes with an adjustable height load floor. Ford also provides a front boot that’s ideal for storing charging cables right next to where you plug in the car when it needs a top up with electricity.
Like many EVs, the Mach-E has a soothingly quiet cabin, helped by the Continental PremiumContact 6 tyres. It just goes to show how successfully Ford has brought together differing ideas to make one great SUV.
