Starting life as a life as a luxurious Mercedes SL convertible, Brabus’ new 1000-bhp shooting brake is like nothing else on the road. But how does it transfer such prodigious power to the tarmac?
While Brabus is famed for its absurdly powerful and extravagant Mercedes-based supercars, we think the new Rocket GTS is its wildest creation yet. Not content with shoehorning a monstrous 1000 bhp and 1342 lb-ft V8 into a wafty convertible GT, Brabus has proceeded to completely re-model the SL’s rear end to create a full shooting brake — those familiar with BMW’s Z3 M ‘Clowncar’, will know exactly what we mean. The net result is essentially a three-door hatchback that can swallow several suitcases and then blast up to an unbelievable 217 mph.
And it’s not just relentless at the top end, either. Taming this beast are specially selected Continental SportContact 7 tyres which, thanks to their BlackChilli compound and adaptive tread pattern, are capable of converting the Rocket’s immense levels of twist into forward propulsion. Don’t believe us? Well how does 0-60 mph in just 2.6 seconds sound? Moreover, when the heavens open, the SportContact 7’s wet weather stability ensures the Brabus’s four-figure power output doesn’t cause the shooting brake to swap ends at every junction and roundabout.

Step inside, and you're greeted with an interior that seamlessly blends opulence with sportiness. Expect premium materials like Alcantara and carbon fibre, alongside BRABUS' signature touches. While specific details remain under wraps, expect advanced technology and driver-assistance systems to elevate the driving experience. Afterall, while the Rocket boasts hypercar performance, it’s still an ultra-cosseting and refined Mercedes underneath.
As you might imagine, this limited edition, '1 of 25' machine doesn’t come cheap. The BRABUS ROCKET GTS is expected to set you back well over £300,000. Then again, if eye-catching exclusivity is your main aim, it’s tough to beat a 1000-bhp carbon-bodied hatchback.
Would Brabus’s unhinged creation be at the top of your lottery win list? Let us know how you’d spend the six-digit asking price.
