Are off road tyres legal or illegal in the UK?

Off road tyres are legal in the UK.

They come in 2 general categories:

• All-terrain tyres
• Mud-terrain tyres

As long as these have been approved for sale within the UK market, there are no laws prohibiting the use on road. However, they are not likely to provide as good a performance on tarmac. This is because they have been designed to tackle the unique properties required for driving off road driving.
