Tyres > Help > Tyres Help > Can any EV charge using a Tesla supercharger in the UK?
Ultimately, the short answer is no. It is not possible for allelectric vehicles to charge their batteries using a Tesla supercharger. It used to be the case that no other EVs were compatible. However in May 2022, it became possible for non Tesla vehicles to use their Superchargers as long as they were CSS enabled. See below for more details.
Supercharging is only available for CCS-enabled electric vehicles. If a Supercharger post features two cables or an installed adapter, non-Tesla EVs can only charge using the CCS connector. Tesla cannot support vehicles that do not fully comply with the CCS standard.
You will have noticed in various car parks up and down the country that Tesla has its own charging network. They use a proprietary connector. This means that only EVs with the correct charging port are able to use the Tesla Superchargers.
However, there are some Tesla vehicles which are in fact compatible with other charging networks. Even if that charger uses a different type of connector.
Tesla has made it so that their vehicles can be charged using a variety of chargers. The type of charger required will depend on the specific model of you own.
Check your vehicle handbook for the specific specifications. Or contact Tesla's customer service for more information on compatible charging.
All Tesla vehicles come with a Type 2 connector. This is compatible with most public charging stations, including those found at supermarkets and car parks.
However, to take advantage of faster charging speeds, owners of the latest Tesla models may need to use a CCS (Combined Charging System) adapter with certain charging stations.
