Why do winter tyres have lower speed ratings?

All tyres are rated to tell you the maximum speed and weight they can carry. Winter tyres as a general rule of thumb have a lower speed.

This will not compromise your driving or the performance of your vehicle, as even an H rated tyre has a maximum speed of 131mph.

Remember to drive carefully in snowy and icy conditions.

Vehicle manufacturers usually list the size and speed rating that is recommended for your vehicle. Where available, this information can be found on the car pressure sticker or the handbook of the car.
