What documents do I need to take to my MOT test?

When you take your car to its MOT appointment you should bring with you the following documents:

  • V5C logbook: You'll need this for your first MOT or if you've changed your number plate. You can apply for a replacement V5 online, by phone, or by post for a £25 fee.
  • Valid driving license: You can't drive your car to the test centre without a valid license.
  • Payment: You'll need to bring a credit card, debit card, or cash to pay for the test. The maximum cost is £54.85 for a passenger car and £29.65 for a standard motorcycle.

Although they are not required for the test, you may also consider bringing the following:

  • Appointment confirmation
  • Current MOT certificate
  • Taxes documentation
  • Vehicle service logbook
  • Locking wheel nut key

Remember to arrive at your MOT appointment a few minutes early. This is so you can check-in with the centre and fill out any paperwork as required.
