What if I can’t attend my MOT?

If you miss your MOT appointment, you will forfeit your payment and need to rebook and pay again. 

If there is a genuine reason that you missed the appointment and were unable to inform them of this, you can appeal the decision by contacting the DVA's customer services team. With this team you can make a Fail to Appear (FTA) appeal.

An FTA appeal asks the DVA to consider your explanation for failing to go for a vehicle or driving test.

If you know that you are not going to be able to make your MOT appointment, here are some ways you can still ensure your car is able to be tested:

• Ask an MOT centre to collect your vehicle: Some MOT centres will collect your vehicle and return it after the test.
• Have another person take your vehicle in: If you have a friend or family member that is insured on your vehicle, they would be able to drive your vehicle to the test centre on your behalf. 

You can cancel your MOT appointment online if required. If you need to do this, make sure that you book a new test as soon as possible.

Also ensure you are not driving around in a car which does not have a valid MOT certificate. You can face fines and penalty points on your license if you do so.
