Why is my tyre losing air pressure?

A tyre can lose air pressure for several reasons, including punctures, valve stem issues, bead leaks, and natural air seepage.

Small punctures, often caused by nails or sharp objects, may result in slow leaks that gradually reduce pressure. Faulty or damaged valve stems can also allow air to escape over time.

Temperature changes play a significant role – cold weather causes air to contract, leading to temporary pressure drops, while warmer temperatures can increase pressure slightly.

Additionally, rims with corrosion or damage can create a poor seal between the tyre and wheel, leading to slow leaks.

Regularly checking your tyre pressure, especially before long trips or seasonal temperature changes, can help prevent underinflation, which affects handling, fuel efficiency, and tread wear.

If you notice frequent pressure loss, a professional inspection at your local garage is recommended to identify and fix the issue before it compromises safety.
