It’s only fitting that a car that reminds Jonny Smith of the 1980s comes with front seats that look like ET from that decade’s biggest blockbuster film. However, Jonny finds there’s nothing alien about Kia's new EV6 electric car in the way it drives and works.
For starters, the EV6 comes with a choice of one or two electric motors, and a driving range of between 302- and 328 miles on a full charge. You also get different driving modes, and there’s even a three-pin plug socket to power other electrical appliances.
All of this is possible because the EV6 is the first electric car from Kia that has been designed as an EV from the ground up. It shows in the totally flat floor inside the cabin that frees up loads of space, and the hugely practical floating centre console.
This approach is obvious on the road, too, where Jonny enjoys the way the EV6 drives. It feels comfortable yet is also sporty riding on its Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
It all adds up to a car that Jonny reckons is the future of EVs but available right now, and he doesn’t have to phone home to be sure about that.
