Jonny Smith heads off on a 1500-mile journey from home to Scotland and back in a Tesla Model Y. How does he get on with charging and the driving range, and what does he think of the Model Y?
Using Tesla’s Supercharger network makes it easy for Jonny to cover more than 400 miles in a day, even if he has trouble finding the hazard warning light switch. As a car to cover big distances, Jonny reckons the Model Y is brilliant on the motorway. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres that also give the Tesla superb handling. Jonny thinks the Tesla’s suspension might be a bit on the firm side on more rural roads, but he also rates the car’s refinement.
There are plenty of other things that Jonny loves about the Tesla Model Y as he spends more time with this practical, roomy crossover that’s a rival to cars like the Kia EV6 and Nissan Ariya. Whether it’s the large boot or the quirky modes that keep him amused as the miles pass, Jonny tells us what it’s really like to live with the car that he reckons is the best in Tesla’s line-up.
