Limited to just 33 units, the 207-mph, V6-powered Stradale is a bittersweet goodbye to gasoline.
Calling all Alfisti: the wait is finally over. Alfa Romeo’s first true supercar since the exquisite, but dynamically challenged, 8C, has broken cover as an ultra-low volume love letter to the brand’s heritage.
So, about that V6 then… As you might expect, Alfa sourced the heart of the 33 Stradale from its own Guila Quadrifoglio saloon. Except for this exclusive application the wick has been turned up to 11. Size has increased by 100cc, and presumably the turbos have been played with too, resulting in 641 bhp being fired straight at the rear wheels.

With just 1500kg to propel — thanks to a lightweight carbonfibre chassis and aluminium body — performance is suitably explosive. A sub-3-second 0-60 mph will pin you into your seat and shortly after, a 207-mph top speed will have the horizon approaching faster than you ever thought possible. While six piston carbon ceramic brakes should have stopping power akin to the parachute used to slow the space shuttle.
In a somewhat peculiar move from Alfa, buyers can also opt for their last-of-the-line combustion supercar to be powered exclusively by electricity. No, we’re not sure why either. But the salient facts are these: 750 bhp meets a maximum range of 280 miles — so the headline stats certainly aren’t too shabby.
Then, there’s the matter of styling. We don’t think we are speaking out of turn when we say this is probably one of the best-looking cars of all time. According to Alfa, the Stradale is “The epitome of necessary beauty” and draws much of its inspiration from the classic 1967 model with which it shares a name.
From the glass fighter-jet style cockpit to the intricately recessed LEDs which frame the headlights, the Stradale is a true bedroom wall poster car. One element of the design which we particularly enjoy are the characteristic 20-inch gold wheels wrapped in Bridgestone rubber. Although, when those tyres have been worn to the wear markers (no doubt quickly given the power on tap) buyers have a myriad of high-performance options from Michelin, Continental, and Hankook to choose from for maximum thrills.
While the Stradale certainly seems to be everything a petrol head could ever dream of, we can’t help but wonder why Alfa decided to spec an efficient but uninvolving 8-speed automatic gearbox as the sole transmission option. Few buyers seemed to care though, as all 33 examples have been shifted for an eyewatering sum of £1.7 million each.
If your Euro Millions numbers came up tomorrow (and you could convince Alfa to build you another one) would you take the purist route and go for a petrol, or is an EV Stradale more up your street?
