The weather might not have been perfect at Goodwood but that didn’t hold back a raft of new cars from being unveiled at the Festival of Speed.
McLaren put down a marker with its extreme Solus GT single-seater by setting the fastest time of the weekend up the famous hill climb.
The 840hp Solus GT recorded a time of 45.34 seconds up the hill to make it every bit as rapid as the Gran Turismo video game concept that inspired it.
Only 25 Solus GTs will be built by McLaren and the British firm says it’s as close as you can get to experiencing a Formula 1 car. Tipping the scales at less than 1000kg, the Solus GT has a 5.2-litre V10 that sees it from 0-60mph in less than 2.5 seconds and on to more than 200mph. Much like a Formula 1 car if you can stretch to the £2.5 million price tag.

More affordable are two other new British sports cars that made their debut at the Festival of Speed and both are electric cars from Caterham.
The Project V coupe will cost less than £80,000 and goes on sale in 2026. It will be propelled by a 270hp electric motors to take it from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and on to 143mph.
Aimed at those who want an everyday sports car, the Project V has unusual 2+1 seating, with two in the front and a central rear seat. The Project V coupe has a range of up to 249 miles on a full charge, which is a lot more than Caterham’s other new car – the Seven EV.
This trackday missile has a 325hp motor that can be used for 20 minutes on track and then recharged in 15 minutes. Caterham says this means owners can use the car flat out in track sessions all day.
Another car with track fun in mind is the AIM EV Sport 01, which comes from the same designer as the Nissan R35 GT-R.
Inspired by racing cars of the 1960s, the AIM began as a concept car but public reaction has spurred on the Japanese firm to look at making it a production car. The AIM uses twin electric motors producing 490hp and both driving the rear wheels to give it performance on a par with the Caterham Project V if the EV Sport 01 goes into production.
One car you won’t have to wait for is the stunning new Maserati Ghibli 334 Ultima. As the name suggests, it’s the ultimate Ghibli model and the last that will be fitted with a V8 petrol engine.
The 334 name comes from the Ghibli’s top speed in KPH, which translates to 207.5mph, and it will rocket from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds thanks to its 572hp 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 motor. Maserati will only build 103 Ghibli 334 Ultimas, and the same number of Levante V8 Ultimas using the same engine, with a price of £118,020.
The Ghibli 334 Ultima is currently the fastest four-door production car in the world, which will make it an instant collector’s item – just like all the cars that made their debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
As fans of speed begin to dry out, they’ll be left with lots of fast cars and sleek rides to dream of. What makes the top of your wish list?
