Charged up and ready to roll: how’s Hankook helped the new Porsche Taycan?

The Porsche Taycan needs no introduction. Mastering its segment, alongside the Audi e-tron GT and the Tesla Model S, with its stylish lines and fiesty powertrain options. But how to improve a combination like this?

Well, by adding specifically designed high performance tyres to enhance the electric bite. Find out how Hankook tailored its iON evo tyres to meet the Taycan’s needs.

The new Taycan boasts sleek, aerodynamic lines, characteristic of Porsche's design language. Compared to previous models, the lines appear sharper, giving the car a more aggressive stance. However, some might argue that it lacks the visual drama of its competitors like the Audi e-tron GT, or even the flowing lines of the Lotus Emeya.

Under the hood, the electric Taycan offers various powertrain options, including rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The base model boasts a single electric motor producing a respectable 402 hp, while the top-tier Turbo S variant packs a punch with a dual-motor setup churning out a whopping 750 hp. This allows for a 0-60 mph time of just 2.6 seconds, leaving in the dust Jonny’s 3.7 second dash in the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo (and certainly would have gotten us airborne in a trip round the Gotland ring). Blazingly fast, even compared to other high-performance EVs.

Stepping inside the Taycan, you're greeted by a minimalist, driver-focused cabin. Porsche has opted for a largely digital interface, with multiple touchscreens controlling everything from climate settings to navigation. This might feel very futuristic for some, while others might find the lack of physical buttons less intuitive. The build quality is impeccable, as one would expect from Porsche, and the use of sustainable materials adds an eco-conscious touch, which is matched in the rubber.

The new Porsche Taycan is fitted with Hankook iON evo tyres, specifically engineered for high-performance electric vehicles. These tyres feature a unique tread compound and construction designed to reduce rolling resistance. A crucial element for electric vehicles and, as Porsche itself states, it means that the Taycan deliver 'up to 40 kilometres more' in increased range.  Moreover, the tyres are engineered to handle the instant torque delivery of electric motors, providing optimal grip and stability during acceleration and cornering. This focus on low rolling resistance and grip ensures the driver can fully utilise the Taycan's performance potential without compromising efficiency.

If you’re looking to take one home with you, you’ll want to massage those investment reports. Pricing for the Taycan starts at £89,970 for the entry-level model. Opting for higher-spec trims like the 483 hp GTS with a range of 342 miles will set you back around £108,250.

So, with its impressive performance, luxurious interior, focus on sustainability, and now optimised rubber: has Hankook helped Porsche make the new Taycan the complete package for discerning electric car buyer?
