How many miles per 1mm of tread depth

On average, a tyre with a tread depth of 5.5mm can last up to 20,000 miles. That's an estimate of around 3,600 miles per 1mm of tread depth.

Please keep in mind that this is an approximation.

Most tyre manufacturers recommend replacing your tyres every 20,000 to 40,000 miles, or when your tread depth falls below 2mm. And remember, the UK's legal limit for tyre tread is 1.6mm across 75% of the circumference of the tyre. So, keep an eye on those treads and stay safe on the road!

How long should tyres last?

The durability of your tyre tread hinges on a variety of factors, including:

• Your driving frequency, as measured by mileage.
• Your driving habits.
• Reckless driving such as sharp braking and cornering can lead to faster tyre wear and uneven patterns.
• Proper tyre maintenance, including ensuring they are correctly inflated and regularly rotated.
• The type of driving, with city driving putting more stress on tyres than highway driving.

How long will 2mm tyre tread last?

Once your tyre has reached 2mm of tread, the best you can hope for is around 1,000 miles. However, please not that this is the time to start looking for a new tyre. This is because the legal limit in the UK is 1.6mm of tyre tread. So you will have just 0.4mm worth of tread left before your tyres are deemed illegal.

This should give you enough mileage for short trips and city driving – but it would not be recommended to go on long journeys once your tyres drop below 2mm of tread.

How long will 3mm tyre tread last?

The average tyre with 3mm of tread can expect around 10,000-15,000 miles before needing replaced.

Make sure to check your tyres regularly though. As this will fluctuate based on your specific tyres and the factors mentioned before.

How long will 4mm tyre tread last?

A tyre with 4mm of tread can last for around 10,000-20,000 miles.

This is not a guarantee however, so make sure to check your tyres regularly. The rate at which they wear down will vary depending on the tyres you have fitted and the factors listed before.

How long will 5mm tyre tread last?

On average a tyre with 5mm of tread can run upwards of 20,000 miles+ before they need to be replace for new tyres.

However, it is important that you do not take this as standard. Make sure to check your tyre tread depth regularly. Different tyres will wear at different rates.

How long will 6mm tyre tread last?

Tyres with 6mm of tread should last between 20,000-30,000 miles. Possibly more.

Always check your tyre tread regularly though. This is an average figure and not the case for every tyre. Results with vary depending on the factors listed above.
