How to tell the age of a tyre

You can find out the age of a tyre by checking the sidewall.

How to check tyre age

To check the age of your tyre, you can find the date of manufacture by checking the tyre's sidewall code.

You can locate this code on the tyre's outer sidewall, close to the edge of the wheel rim. It is a combination of letters and numbers that indicate the tyre's manufacturing date.

How to determine the tyre age

You can find out the age of your tyre by reading the dot code. The last four digits of the DOT code are the important ones. They tell you the tyre’s age. The first two digits show the week that the tyre was made, and the last two digits represent the year.

How to read tyre age code

Once you have found the DOT code, you can calculate the tyre's age. If the last four digits of the DOT code were "3720," this means the tyre was made in the 37th week of 2020.

So, it was manufactured in 2020, and if the current year is 2023, we can tell that the tyre is 3 years old.

It is advisable to replace tyres every 5-6 years, irrespective of their tread depth or overall condition
