How do I know when my car needs a service?

A general rule of thumb for car servicing is that you should service your car once every 12 months or 12,000 miles — whichever comes first.

However, if you drive a lot — more than 2,000 miles per month — an interim service every six months or 6,000 miles is recommended.

Many modern cars now also provide notifications via the dashboard or in-car entertainment system advising you when a car service is due.

This is normally based on either how long it has been since your car’s last service, or the mileage you have covered.
